Build day 2 - The header/ridge beam

Scaffolding and temporary supports setup for the ridge beam.  This thing is heavy and has to go 14 feet up in the air.  See that ladder on the right?  that is a 10 foot, very old, orchard ladder.  Nobody likes that ladder.

After much discussion, Tammy went to Menards and we are now the proud owners of a new 12 foot step ladder (in use on the left by Tammy's brother Bobby).

The first main bean is in place (from the short wall up to the ridge beam and back down on the other side).  This all had to lock in place and be drilled and screwed up in the air (see the picture at the bottom for a close up).

By the end of the day, we were able to get two main beams in place.

Here is what the connection at the top looks like.  Each side has a heavy aluminum gusset that those screws go into and tie the two sides together.  Each main bean has a slot that fits into that big ridge bean, locking everything together.  (I tool this picture out of order which is why you can see the cresting in place above).
